Online Movie Resources

Hi everyone. My name is David Wilson. I'm one of the Reference Librarians at EWU, and I also happen to be Vanessa's husband. Vanessa has invited me to drop in now and then to provide tips and advice on resources and strategies that might help with your assignments. Also, please free to stop by the JFK Reference Desk to ask questions in person. Today I wanted to spotlight one free website many of you might already know about. The Internet Movie Database (or IMDB) is a huge free database of cast and credit information for nearly every film released internationally, past and present. Use the search box at the top of the page to enter a film title, or title keywords. For example, "Lengua mariposas" will pull up a detailed entry on "La Lengua de las Mariposas" which includes a complete list of cast and credits. Now when you discuss a performance you liked, you can mention the actor's name; if you want to talk about the story or the script, you might refer to Manuel Rivas, who wrote the original story, or to Jose Luis Cuerda, the film's writer-director. See what other films any actor or creative person contributed to, by clicking on their names and following the links. I'll leave you with IMDB's link to "Martin (Hache)," the next film you'll see. Thanks and happy viewing...
